Got diagnosed with Morton's neuroma with thinning foot pads from 35 years of working on cement wearing big 5 and Walmart cheaper shoes. First symptoms, toes cold, tingling, numb feeling and sometime very bad burning sensation on feet. The doctor Podiatrist in Meridian first sent me to another place in Meridian. Bought some Metatarsal foot pads and some Brooks Rocker shoes. Seemed like a rehearsed procedure at this place to be honest. Doctor prescribed me Metatarsal pads and that is what I got along with better shoes. Helped some but when it was time for a new set, I thought I would try Rosendahl foot and shoe center. When I walked in, Brett must have been watching me walk in because he immediately described my walking pattern and gait and set me up with a pair of specially modified Metatarsal foot pads on the spot and a pair of New balance shoes. I was very impressed as what he described as far as my gait, I have heard before years ago and he was spot on. I will say they seem to be much better. The price difference was the same as other specialty place I went to first. Along with loosing a few pounds to help, Im well on my way to making it another 5 years of working on cement before retiring. LOL. I think is worth every penny and Brett seems to have used his schooling very well. Thanks so much!!
If you are looking for Birkenstocks in Boise, Rosendahl Foot and Shoe Center on S Curtis Rd carries one of the largest in-store Birkenstock selections in the Treasure Valley. We are an authorized Birkenstock retailer which means every pair we sell is genuine, covered by Birkenstock's quality standards and fitted by board certified pedorthists who understand feet, not just shoes.
We have been fitting Boise and Nampa customers into Birkenstocks for years and the thing that keeps bringing people back is simple. A properly fitted Birkenstock feels completely different from one that was grabbed off a shelf in the wrong size. The footbed is doing real work and when the fit is right you feel it immediately. When it is not right the shoe never quite delivers what it is supposed to.
Walk-ins welcome at both our Boise and Nampa locations. If you want to make sure we have your size and style in stock before you come in, call us at (208) 343-4242 for Boise or (208) 461-2011 for Nampa. Free fitting consultation, no pressure to buy anything you do not love.
Birkenstock Styles We Carry in Boise
We carry a wide range of Birkenstock styles at our Boise and Nampa locations across multiple materials, colorways and sole options. Here are the core styles we stock and what makes each one worth knowing about.
Arizona
The one most people picture when they think Birkenstock. Two adjustable straps across the foot, available in Birko-Flor, Birkibuc, oiled leather and soft footbed versions. The Arizona is the entry point for most people new to Birkenstocks and for good reason. Versatile, comfortable and available in enough colorways that there is something for almost everyone. We carry it in oiled leather, lavender, zinfandel and several other colorways with both regular and soft footbed options.
Franca
A braided oiled leather strap that gives the Arizona silhouette a more refined look. Available in cognac, black and lavender. Good for people who want the Birkenstock footbed experience in something that works for occasions beyond casual wear.
Mayari
Three-strap toe loop design that wraps around the foot more completely than the Arizona. Available in Birkibuc, Birko-Flor and oiled leather in multiple colorways including mocha, stone, white and habana. A good choice for people who want more foot contact and a slightly more secure fit than a standard two-strap sandal.
Gizeh
Thong style with a single toe post. The most minimal of the Birkenstock lineup in terms of coverage and one of the most popular. Available in Birkibuc mocha, braided oiled leather and Birko-Flor white. For people who want the footbed support without the visual weight of multiple straps.
Boston
Closed toe clog. The Boston is the Birkenstock that works through more of the year than the sandal styles and it has developed a serious following in healthcare, culinary and creative fields where people are on their feet all day and want something with more coverage. Soft footbed oiled leather in habana. One of the more asked-about styles in our Boise store.
Granada
Single wide strap across the foot in a mule silhouette. Available in Birkibuc black and mocha. Slightly more casual than the Arizona, easier to slip on and off, same footbed underneath.
Bend Low
Birkenstock's closed toe sneaker silhouette. Leather upper, lace-up, the Birkenstock footbed in a shoe that looks nothing like a sandal. Available in black and white leather and suede embossed matcha. For people who want year-round Birkenstock support in something that works in more settings.
Buckley
Single strap across the forefoot with a buckle closure. Oiled leather in cognac. A cleaner more minimal look than the Franca with similar versatility for everyday wear.
Milano
Two strap design with an ankle strap that adds stability compared to the Arizona. Soft footbed oiled leather in black and testa di moro. A good option for people who want more heel security than a standard backless sandal provides.
Zermatt
Shearling wool felt slipper style for indoor wear. Available in herringbone grey and eggnog/eggshell. The Birkenstock footbed in a house slipper that actually supports your feet rather than just covering them.
Why Birkenstock? The Science Behind the Footbed
Most sandals are a flat surface with straps. A Birkenstock is doing something fundamentally different and the footbed is why people who own one pair usually end up owning several.
The footbed is cork and latex, firm enough to actually support the foot rather than just cushion underneath it, and it gradually molds to the specific contours of the foot wearing it. Over the first few weeks it takes on the shape of your heel, your arch and your forefoot pressure points. A broken-in Birkenstock is essentially a custom footbed you built by walking in it.
What the Footbed Actually Does
The structure underneath is deliberate. Deep heel cup that centers the heel and prevents inward or outward rolling. Raised toe bar that encourages the toes to grip naturally with each stride, activating foot muscles that most shoes let go completely passive. Arch support that follows the natural curve of the medial arch rather than pushing up from a single point. Slightly concave forefoot that distributes pressure across the metatarsal heads rather than concentrating it.
All of that adds up to a sandal that actually influences foot biomechanics rather than just covering the foot. People who switch to Birkenstocks from flat unsupportive footwear frequently notice changes in their knees, hips and lower back because what happens at the foot travels upward through the whole chain.
Birkenstock Upper Materials — What to Know for Boise's Climate
Oiled Leather
Develops a rich patina over time, handles moisture well and holds up through Idaho's variable seasons better than most materials. Most durable option we carry and the one that gets better with age.
Birkibuc
A nubuck-style synthetic that looks like suede, handles moisture better than genuine suede and requires less maintenance. Good for people who want the natural look without the care requirements.
Birko-Flor
Birkenstock's synthetic upper. Easy to wipe clean, most affordable and available in the widest range of colors and prints. Good for people who want low maintenance or a specific colorway that does not come in leather.
Soft Footbed
Adds an extra foam layer on top of the standard cork-latex base. Worth considering for anyone with fat pad atrophy, general foot sensitivity or who finds the standard footbed too firm during the break-in period.
Birkenstock Fitting — Why Coming In Matters
Birkenstock sizing trips people up more than almost any other brand we carry. They run in European sizing, come in regular and narrow widths and the conversion to US sizing is not always consistent between styles. A woman who wears a US 8 in most shoes might need a 39 or a 40 in Birkenstock depending on the style and her specific foot shape. Buying the wrong size online means either a sandal that never supports the foot properly or one that causes the blisters that give Birkenstocks an unfair bad reputation with first-time buyers.
Width matters just as much as length. A regular width on a narrow foot means the foot slides on the footbed and the arch support does not land where it should. A narrow width on a medium foot means the footbed is working against the foot rather than with it. Neither situation gets fixed by adjusting the straps.
The break-in period is also something worth understanding before you buy. New Birkenstocks are firm. That is intentional. The cork-latex footbed needs time and body heat to start conforming to your specific foot shape and for the first week or two they can feel harder than expected. People who buy online, wear them all day immediately and give up have usually just skipped the break-in rather than experienced a bad pair.
When you come into Rosendahl we measure both feet, check your arch type, confirm whether regular or narrow width is right for you and make sure the style you want actually suits your foot. That process takes a few minutes and saves a lot of frustration. Walk-ins welcome at both our Boise and Nampa locations.
Birkenstock Repair in Boise
One of the things that makes Birkenstocks worth investing in is that they are repairable. The cork footbed, the straps and the sole can all be replaced or refurbished rather than throwing the whole shoe away when one component wears out. A well-cared-for pair of Birkenstocks can last many years longer than most footwear precisely because of this.
If your Birkenstocks need repair, come into our Boise location at 125 S Curtis Rd and we will take a look at what they need. Common repairs include resoling when the outsole has worn through, strap replacement when the buckle hardware or strap material has given out, and cork sealing and refurbishment when the footbed has dried out or the edges have started to crumble.
Worth knowing that Birkenstock produces their own line of care and repair products specifically for their footwear including cork sealer, leather conditioner and cleaning products. We carry these in store so you can maintain your Birkenstocks properly between repairs and extend the life of the footbed significantly.
If you are not sure whether your pair is worth repairing or whether it is time for a new pair, bring them in and we will give you an honest answer. Sometimes a resoling and a strap replacement makes a ten year old pair feel new again. Sometimes the footbed has compressed to the point where replacement makes more sense. We will tell you which situation you are in rather than pushing you toward whichever option costs more.
Call us at (208) 343-4242 for our Boise location or (208) 461-2011 for Nampa to ask about repair services before you come in.
Birkenstock Questions We Hear in Boise
Are you an authorized Birkenstock retailer?
Yes. Real Birkenstocks, fitted by board certified pedorthists. Not grey market stock, not a third party reseller.
What styles do you have?
Arizona, Franca, Mayari, Gizeh, Boston, Granada, Bend Low, Buckley, Milano and Zermatt. Multiple materials and colorways across all of them. Stock changes so call before you come in if you are after something specific. Boise (208) 343-4242, Nampa (208) 461-2011.
What size should I get?
Come in and get measured honestly. Birkenstocks run European sizing, come in regular and narrow widths and the US conversion shifts between styles. Getting the width wrong is just as bad as getting the length wrong and most people have no idea what their Birkenstock width is until someone actually measures them.
Do they need breaking in?
They do and it catches people off guard. Cork-latex footbed is firm when new. Needs body heat and wear time to start taking the shape of your foot. Go short sessions first, build up gradually. A broken in Birkenstock feels completely different from a new one out of the box.
Regular or soft footbed?
Regular is the standard cork-latex. Soft adds foam on top for more cushioning. Arch support and heel cup are the same either way. If you have sensitive feet, fat pad issues or just find firm footbeds uncomfortable, soft is worth looking at.
Can you repair them?
Bring them into 125 S Curtis Rd in Boise and we will take a look. Resoling, strap replacement, cork work. We also carry Birkenstock care products in store for keeping them going between repairs.
Are they good for foot problems?
For a lot of people yes. Plantar fasciitis, flat feet, arch pain, metatarsal soreness. The footbed design actually supports the foot rather than just covering it. That said every foot is different and we would rather look at yours than make promises. Come in and we will give you a straight answer.
